BEGINNINGS

In the band’s early days, they mostly rehearsed experimental songs influenced by classic punk rock, with hints of 1980s gothic rock. In the words of founder Filipino: “We started the band in the city of Atibaia and, since our human had a band and traveled a lot, we began sneaking into the room where he kept his equipment and playing to kill time.”

During their first year, they treated the band as a hobby. As Filipino explained, their human would travel and leave them at home with food, water and a clean litter box, thinking that was enough — failing to consider that felines need entertainment just as much as humans do. During those lonely stretches at home, they also began reading some of the zines and books their human owned and became deeply interested in anarchist philosophy, quickly realizing that this way of thinking suited their rebellious and satanic spirits perfectly.

THE MOVE

Their human moved to São Paulo, and so did the band. They continued playing during their hours of boredom, but now with their human’s consent. He encouraged them to actually write songs instead of just getting lost in endless experimental jams.

That was how their first compositions began to emerge, including “Autogestión felina” (Feline Self-Management), “Minha caixa minha vida” (My Litter Box, My Life), “Não cubro o cocô e sou feliz assim” (I Don’t Cover My Poop and I’m Happy That Way), and, over the course of 2016, they recorded their first demo, Derrubei porque sim (I Knocked It Over Just Because).

The recording circulated through the feline underground scene with some success, and the band began playing shows on rooftops around the Pinheiros neighborhood. In 2017, however, they took a short break from performing due to drummer Kitana’s serious Catnip addiction, which eventually required a period in rehab. Rumor has it that Kitana wandered across rooftops destroying other people’s homes and picking fights with neighborhood cats for no apparent reason, at one point disappearing for 15 days. When she finally returned, the decision was made to check her into rehab.

NEW LINEUP AND ABSOLUTE SUCCESS

The band’s major turning point came in 2018, when their human decided to get married and move. His wife had a cat who — unbeknownst to everyone at the time — was the reincarnation of vocalist Darby Crash.

Everything changed when the band met Tomate Nomuerdas. He took over as lead vocalist and ultimately defined the band’s signature sound. Tomate gave them a new direction, finally getting rid of those boring-as-fuck eighties influences and leading the band toward the chaotic and irreverent attitude toward society for which they became known. They began appropriating other people’s songs, making covers (stealing) from other bands, and building a devoted following around the world.

Los Miaudiablos played practically every venue in São Paulo’s feline music circuit and expanded to cities such as Rio de Janeiro and Porto Alegre, even performing at the 15th Xis de Atum Song Festival in the latter city.

During this period, they recorded more than eight albums, each more groundbreaking than the last. Songs such as “Te mato seu ragabundo sialata” (I’ll Kill You, You Stray-mese Bastard), “Vomitei a casa toda e não tô nem aí” (I Threw Up All Over the House and I Don’t Give a Damn), “Rasgo lixo por prazer” (I Tear Up Trash for Fun), “Unha na tua cara” (Claws in Your Face), and “Caguei fora da caixa” (I Shit Outside the Litter Box) were sung in unison at every show, becoming true anthems of the feline anarcho-satanist movement.

TRAGEDY

In 2023, the band suffered an irreparable loss with Tomate’s sudden death. His health had deteriorated rapidly and mysteriously, something attributed to the vocalist’s various excesses.

He had a severe addiction to paper balls, devoting his life to chasing them without regard for the consequences or his own physical well-being. Tomate was also known to be extremely fond of Catnip, often mixing it with wine and lamb wet-food derivatives, causing intense hallucinatory episodes. These sometimes escalated to the point of heated arguments with stuffed mice and climbing the safety nets of his apartment for no apparent reason.

Unable to continue performing live without their vocalist, the band went on hiatus, with its members pursuing their respective solo careers: Filipino with his nocturnal emo operatic singing project, and Kitana with her advanced massage studies. Tetris, meanwhile, never learned to cope with the death of his beloved friend and is known to have surrendered to a life of everyday violence, attacking friends and companions for no apparent reason. He is currently undergoing a treatment based on daily brushing and therapeutic vapors.

REBIRTH?

The band currently gets together from time to time for long jam sessions and is in talks to become the backing band for rising feline pop sensation Pistache Castlevania.
